How to find your model and serial number
Every appliance and home system has a rating label with the brand, the model number and the serial number. The serial number holds the date it was made. Take a photo of the whole label, straight on and without glare, and Appliance Age reads it for you.
Common label locations

- Refrigerator
- Inside the fresh-food section on a side wall or the ceiling, behind the crisper drawers, or on the frame by the door hinge.
- Range or oven
- Open the oven door or pull out the storage drawer and look on the frame. On some models it is on the back or under the cooktop.
- Dishwasher
- On the edge of the door or the tub frame, visible when the door is open.
- Washer
- Under the lid on a top-loader; around the door opening or on the back of a front-loader.
- Dryer
- Inside the door opening, or on the back.
- Microwave
- Inside the door frame, or on the back or side.
- Water heater
- On the side of the tank, usually near the gas valve or the electrical cover.
- Furnace
- Inside the front panel. Turn the power off before removing the panel.
- Air conditioner or heat pump
- On the side or back of the outdoor unit. Some have a second label on the indoor coil.
- Boiler
- On the side or the front panel of the cabinet.
Model numbers usually start with letters; serial numbers are often labelled “S/N” or “Serial”. Some labels also print the manufacture date directly.
