Terms of use

These terms are an agreement between Kanata Enterprises Inc. (“we”), 200 - 100 Park Royal S., West Vancouver, BC V7T 1A2, Canada, and anyone who uses Appliance Age: the website applianceage.com, the Appliance Age apps and the Appliance Age API (“you”). By using Appliance Age you accept these terms and our privacy policy.

What Appliance Age does, and its limits

• Dates are estimates worked out from labels and serial numbers. Some brands reuse their date codes every 10 or 20 years, so more than one year can fit; we show the likeliest one.
• A serial number gives the date a unit was made, which can be earlier than the date it was installed.
• Recall results come from public notices by Health Canada, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “No recall found” is not a guarantee that a unit is safe or has never been recalled. Always confirm with the manufacturer.
• Appliance Age is information, not a home inspection, an appraisal or professional advice. Do not rely on it alone for safety, insurance, purchase or repair decisions.

Accounts

You may check appliances without an account, within the daily free limit. An account is needed to save checks, share results and use the API. Keep your sign-in details and API keys secret; you are responsible for use made with them. You must be at least 13 to use Appliance Age.

Acceptable use

• Use Appliance Age only for lawful purposes and only with labels and details you are entitled to use.
• Do not copy, scrape or resell our results or brand data in bulk except through the API under these terms.
• Do not try to get around limits, test our security without permission, or interfere with the service.
• Do not send photos that contain other people's personal information beyond the appliance label.

The API, prices and billing

• Each account gets 15 successful API lookups a month free. A lookup is successful when it returns a manufacture year; lookups that find no date are free.
• With billing set up, further successful lookups cost US$0.10 each, charged monthly in arrears to your card through Stripe. Taxes are added where required.
• You can cancel at any time from your account page. Use up to the end of your billing period is charged; there are no cancellation fees and no refunds for lookups already made.
• We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email or on this page. Daily limits apply to protect the service and may change.

Free trial

A verified website account can start one 30-day trial with 200 free successful website and app lookups. No credit card is required. The trial ends after 30 days or when its 200 lookups are used. Unused trial lookups expire; starting the trial does not start paid billing. Paid lookups require separate activation. If paid access was already enabled, charges resume after available free units are used or expire. Viewing your saved data remains available after the trial. The regular website free allowance is used first, followed by trial and reward units in order of expiry. The developer API retains its separate monthly free allowance.

Contribution rewards

A new qualifying approved correction or missing-brand submission earns 50 free lookups, valid for 12 months from approval. One reward per accepted contribution; duplicate or unreadable submissions do not qualify. Rewards have no cash value and apply automatically to paid website and app lookups after any applicable free allowance, with the earliest expiry used first. Previously awarded credit retains its original terms. This promotional expiry does not establish an expiry for purchased lookups.

Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and details you send. You allow us to store and process them to provide Appliance Age, to improve the accuracy of results for everyone (including review by people of results that look wrong), and, if you agree when sending a report, to use your photo as an example.

Our service

Appliance Age, its software, brand data and results belong to Kanata Enterprises Inc.. We may change, suspend or stop any part of Appliance Age. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. You may stop using Appliance Age and delete your data at any time.

No warranty, and limits on liability

Appliance Age is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted service, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, Kanata Enterprises Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for decisions made on the basis of a result. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or CA$100 if you paid nothing. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited.

Law, changes and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes go to the courts of British Columbia, unless the consumer law of your place of residence says otherwise. We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
