Carrier serial number: production week and year
Carrier HVAC week/year serial format · Sources checked October 12, 2026
A documented Carrier format places the production week in serial positions 1–2 and the year in positions 3–4. The following letter identifies the manufacturing location; it is not a month letter.
Read the serial from the unit rating plate. A furnace and its outdoor cooling unit can have different manufacture dates, even when they were installed together.
A masked date-code example
4810P•••••
In this format, 48 is the fiscal production week and 10 is the year 2010. This gives a week, not an exact calendar day.
The cited manual covers the 38AU condensing-unit family. Older and other Carrier families can use different formats; check the model before applying the example.
